Creating a respectable booth for events

I've done a few shows now, and taken pictures of the front and the rear. I'm curious what others think about my booth here. What I could improve, do differently? I'm currently limited on space (since I don't yet want to pay for a bigger booth) so I have a 6 or 8 foot table. My plans for the new year are designing/purchasing a banner, buying backdrop stuff with ways to display more jewelry and getting my own fold up 6 foot table. Any thoughts on how I can possibly improve my current set up? I can currently fit everything into a Saturn VUE with a little extra space. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.390715164397033.1073741830.221274888007729&type=3

    Looking for Display Advice

I put a selection of my stretchy bracelets (made with rubber rings and AA) in a bin near the front of my table and people seem to enjoy handling those and looking at everything else at the same time.
  4. I know someone who has been very persistent in asking about me making a chainmail coif for him, I can easily figure out the cost of the supplies, what I don't know, is the approximate amount of time it would take me to make one. So...I would like to hear from the good people on this forum about the average amount of time you take to create a coif using The Ring Lord's instructions? I already know that no one else's time will match mine, so I'm just looking for averages. Longest, shortest, problems encountered, etc...

Average time to weave a Coif

Thanks, that's the type of information I'm looking for. Anyone else have information?
  6. I'm just dying of curiosity to see the end results, but I don't want to be pushy... has there been any word on this yet?

Do you have a favorite piece

My hair is down to my fingertips and getting longer. I usually keep in a braid to keep it untangled.

Here is the completed headdress...my mind is already thinking of variations.

Do you have a favorite piece

I think my favorite one is the belt I made for myself and then turned into a banner for ads and my Etsy shop. I'm currently making a chainmail headdress to go with it. ">
  10. Received my tax return, put in my largest order of rings yet, now I can't wait to get them and sort them and admire them... and then make chainmail from them. =)

How about hug them, and pet them, and squeeze them and call them George? That's what I do.

Glad I'm not the only one who likes to anthropomorphize his rings, Bernice!

  11. The best I can think of with the books I have, is a variation on the Olivia weave.
  12. Here is my entry. A bracelet made using The Ring Lord's glass donuts. I used 18 gauge - 1/4", 3/16" and 5/32" with the red glass donuts and green beads.

To Etsy, or not to Etsy, that is the question

Yeah, I have added a Facebook page for WXdruid Chainmail (stupid facebook wouldn't let me use all lower case) and I have a Pinterest account as well. I'm also working on finding more craft shows that I can get a spot at. The forums did some strange things, so I deleted the extra posts...

To Etsy, or not to Etsy, that is the question

I have started using Project Wonderful for advertising on other sites. It's easy to use and I have gotten views on Etsy by people clicking on my ads. I also put a post on my local meetup site (where I sold 3 items to a local). Otherwise, I have found that periodically adding new items adds to my views.

To Etsy, or not to Etsy, that is the question

I have an Etsy store, but with the new year I've been looking into buying other advertising to get more people (other than people on Etsy) to come to it. So far, I have had more views, and getting more exposure from different places.

    How do you work?

All of my rings are organized by gauge/color into multi sectional beading containers. When I want to start a project, I find out the approx number of rings I need, then put them into little piles in my work area (a small baking pan with a beading mat inside) and then start arranging them, opening or closing as necessary and lining them all up neatly depending on the weave I will work on. Box Chain gets 2 open/2 closed in each row in the number of rows that I need. Byzantine gets a 2 open row, 2 closed row, 2 or 3 open row, and it continues on like that. I have small cheat sheets inside each one of my bags of completed bracelets that tells me the approx number of rings and gauges that I will need for that style of bracelet. The only ones I sit and preclose are the tiny 20 gauge ones for Japanese Lace. I will work on each color til I have ~500 closed of each color. I keep those in a small baggie in the container. I usually watch tv or a movie while I work on chainmail. Sometimes my cat will try and join me, but he's learned that while the pan is in my lap, he has to stay next to me, not on me.

18 gauge AA 3/16" Saw Cut and 18 gauge RR 3/16". I also make some with stainless steel sawcut of the same size with rubber rings. I put them in a bin and people love to play with them. Looking at the posts above, makes me think I should learn to make the E4-1 stretchy bracelets.

    Craft Fair Advice?

So...I'm thinking about selling at a craft show, but unsure of how many items I should have available for sale (if I'm accepted). The craft fair will have 350 booths and about 4200 attendees each day over a weekend. This would be my first try at this, but I would have until November to make everything. Any advice?

    Craft Fair Advice?

Loaded up my car on Friday night and got everything set up at the Craft Fair location. Had two heights on my table with using the storage containers as a level up and putting a smaller tablecloth over it and then a fancy cloth with green and gold on that. Put the Necklace and Bracelet holders on top of that, with two bins in front for the smaller items (one for trees and scale flowers, one for stretchy bracelets). On one side put up my board for displaying keychains. Saturday and Sunday I sat with my table and I found out what people like to buy. =P Shaggy Loops keychains, Stainless Steel keychains, stretchy box chain bracelets were the main sellers. I sold a few other bracelets - Full Persian with beads bracelets, Japanese Lace 2 row bracelets and a Helm weave with beads bracelet. Made enough to cover the cost of the space/table and to pay for next years space/table. Overall, it was more enjoyable than I thought it would be, it turns out, I like talking about chainmail and how it's made and what I make it from. I was the only person there that only sold chainmail and there were lots of bead and wire jewelry people. The customers couldn't resist sticking their hands in the stretchy bracelet bin and trying them out. Overall, a good experience, I have two more events this month, then I need to find more.

Anyone coming to GenCon 2012 (the best 4 days in gaming) in Indianapolis - 15-20 Aug 2012? I'll be there and hanging out with the Giant in the Playground (Order of the Stick) Forum crowd. Would love to meet up with anyone from here that might be going.
