    Horst the Hippopotamus

Sounds like I accomplished something... or then it is just the famous "way-too-early-morning" -effect

http://www.theringlord.org/forum/index.php?/gallery/image/5920-horst-the-hippopotamus/ If Butterball the Cenobite had a sleepy toy it could be something like this? How often you just let go and try some "that just can't work" -type of things? Do you pull your ideas strictly from maille circles or from another crafts, literature, what not? --- Wasn't sure if such a project with a relatively small part of maille is bad around here but I wanted to share that with you. All comments and critique is welcome and appreciated. ---

Some recycled leather, some maille. Not that much a maille project but I wanted to share this anyway. The idea, or the pattern, is not mine. You can find this and plenty of other fun designs from here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/happypotamus-the-happy-hippo-crochet-pattern

    Arbor based cutting rig

Just be aware that the drill press is made for drilling. Arbor based saws etc. can cause some seriously exciting moments, not in a good way. Only rare drill presses have a bore through the spindle allowing a pull bar which would hold the arbor in place. Also bearings in drill presses are not designed for lateral forces. And all that little lateral movement will make the arbor (or arbor + chuck in the worst case) come out from the taper... Just a warning, been there & done that, not a nicest moment when a spinning thingie is chasing you...

    Octopus lamp

In fact very easy. That brass cage and the glass comes off by turning couple of times and then bulb is there. Also the "net" around the brass is so loose it really doesn't make changing the bulb any harder.

    Octopus lamp

Mild steel (and some copper and brass). About 8kg / 18lb. Let the rust and verdigris finish this.
