    Fun picture

Here it is laying on a flat surface I Wrapped the wire around the bottom part of the gem, and then the top, then I wrapped the wire in-between and over those two "rings" so to speak... After it was in place I spiraled the wire upwards and made a loop on the end. I used the loop later on as a working link in the chainmail and the spiraled wire was put through the center of a few links (the gem was shaped like .... /= / kinda...............) I soldered the back of it to make sure the wires wouldn't move anywhere... its kind of thick and heavy looking, but I tried to make it looks as smooth as possible. I didnt have any flux, So i just went on the idea that if the solder was in between the wire and everywhere, nothing could move or break.... (I was even melting down an old pewter dagger looking pendent to do it.. and some shiny solder stuff from the back of a plastic fake gem I found on the ground one day.....) ANYWAYS.... here are the pictures I could muster...

Those brownish and copperish colors on the rings are not really how they look..... I don't know How or why they showed up... probably reflections of something in my room. In any case, they are not tarnished or anything. They are straight up stainless steel with the silver-ish color only.

    Fun picture

This is my first experience using gems.. I actually found it somewhere on the ground one day... Then I wrapped it in wire and soldered the back... Then I found a way to put it into a necklace. I got the idea for the necklace somewhere on this site I think....

Here is a Ring I made. Its standard Euro 4 in 1.... But its the first time I've worked with rings smaller than a 1/8" ID. I added an Extra row of rings. The stats are *I think*... 24 gauge or 22 gauge 1/16" ID. My girlfriend got me a $2 tiny bag of them from TRL for Christmas along with 5 packets of 14 gauge 3/8" ID stainless and 5 packets of 16 gauge 1/4" ID stainless
  8. a Couple of local chainmail guys (im one of them) ordered a bunch of rings bulk and we checked the tracking majigger... and it said this for the status ---> "THE NUMBER OF PIECES DOES NOT MATCH THE INVOICE, WAYBILL, OR TRACKING LABEL / FORWARDED TO THE FACILITY IN THE DESTINATION CITY" Does anyone know what this means, or can you tell me what happened? Or, anything about it? Anything would be appreciated. I'm not angry, I'm just curious. We understand that ringlord IS NOT at fault (or if this is even a bad thing?). It is a shipping thing. Thanks, ~Me
  9. I'm just Curious, Where do you get your Rivets From. I have a friend making some plate/leather/scale/chainmail armor and wants to know where to get rivets. Thanks.

    A few Coifs (pic heavy)

If you want the scale to be more sturdy and stick to your head better, try Fooling around with a sort of leather skeleton idea. It is easy enough to secure a couple rings through some leather and the scale mail rings and this adds a new kind of stiffness/sturdiness. it also means you can take an otherwise clothlike material (scale mail) and turn it into a kind of helmet that would probably stand on its own and not fall down, especially if it was custom fitted to your own head.

I ALSO like the last coif the most. There is something good about the45 degree seams you put in.. and the number of them. I like the kind of "web out" effect. Looks Great!

    Scale Mail Greave (singular)

Yeah I agree with the above. I get mine from Tandy as well, except. I get my tandy leather from hobby lobby. Usually I buy the bags with semi large amounts of scrap and I get a few good pieced here and there. You would probably be a lot better off though doing as Straad said and buying directly from them.

    Scale Mail Greave (singular)

I have some pictures of the bottoms of the greave, maybe that will help? They are at the last half of this link.. this is an album of mostly all of the armor related stuff I have made. I don't really form the leather too much. Mostly my "skill" with it comes to poking holes in it with a simple hammer driven hole punch and cutting it with a good pair of scissors. After that I just use rings like most people use rivets. If you need more help just ask. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2086782&id=219705988&l=7d784b5db7

I like the dragon. A lot. Anyways I can't help but think of the purple dragon knights of Cormyr in dungeons and dragons. Maybe not what you were going for, but it just brings it up in my mind.

    Dice Bag!

I have made a bunch of dicebags too! Not all of them have been maille related (most of mine are leather), but here are the few that I have made. stats from left to right *14 gauge 3/8" galv. and 15 gauge 3/8" copper, Mostly euro 4 in 1 **15 gauge copper with not so consistent ID... (somewhere close to 5/16" ID) (i used a hand shaved wooden dowel thats why its not uniform ^_^) The webbing is just some jewelry wire of a gauge I don't even know. I just made it into a kind of dream-catcher pattern. There are also random bits of 16 gauge "tye wire" in there somewhere... and various large rings. Mostly Euro 4 in 1 and some ring finagling. ***and questionmark blue material probably anodized aluminum (?)with an ID around 3/8" and a gauge around 14 or 15, (got it from a friend's broken dicebag that he bought online. I fixed it for him + made it cooler as a b-day gift.) The copper is 15 gauge and a close to 5/16" ID, the silver is stainless steel 3/8" ID from TRL. Mostly half persian 3 in 1 (blue/blue and copper), done in two different ways and connected together kinda like Euro 4 in 1 with the stainless steel.
