    A 'taxing' question...

It's been a while, but if I remember correctly, I had to request a name search to make sure nobody else had already registered my business name in the state of NC (where I live). Then I had to file Doing Business As (or something like that) paperwork with the Registrar of Deeds. I got a federal tax ID number, got a business license in my town (though I did look to see if a state one was required, and it was not; it may be different where you live). Hmmm...what else...registered somehow with the Department of Revenue, which is who you pay your taxes to. Is that your question, or are you asking more specifically about how to figure tax, when to pay it, etc? For instance, I have some jewelry in stores around the country. The stores are responsible for paying the sales tax in the respective states because they are collecting it at time of sale. If I sell something through my online site or at a show, it's my responsibility to pay the sales tax because I collected it at time of sale. At least that's how I do it...other people may do it differently. You can contact the Small Business Association, your local community college (they may have free classes on small business start up) or a tax accountant (they usually do first consultations for free) if you have more specific questions about your situation. Hope that helps!

starting out in Chain maille, really experienced craftsperson

If I understand you correctly, you want to know how to assemble strips of pre-made chain maille for a purse, straps and a belt. It would really depend on what weave said strips are. You'd need to learn how to make maille in the correct weave in order to assemble the strips. If I've misunderstood your question, please clarify it for me and I will attempt a better answer.

    Scale Maille Bra?

Are those large scales? Maybe you need to space out the contractions a little more. Seeing the back of the bra would be helpful.

    Scale Maille Bra?

Yep, the one you bought is the E4-1 bra, made with EPDM and metal rings. I've not run into needing contractions yet for that type of bra, but that's not to say it couldn't happen...I'm glad you brought that up, actually. It's something I want to consider a little more. You are correct - scale maille is not stretchy, at least not for bras. It's a completely different way of weaving the cups.If I had to guess, the contractions in the scale bra would be akin to something like adding darts in fabric garments for a better fit....(but maybe not...I'm not an expert on fabric garments). EDIT: yes, contractions are covered in the scale bra tutorial.

  20. I make jewelry with bicycle parts, and the metal pieces rust pretty easily. Currently I spray them with clear gloss, but it stinks and I'm not so sure it's all that good for the environment. Does anyone have suggestions for something eco-friendly I could use to coat these pieces? It's got to be clear and stay on with wear...and low-odor would be bonus.
  21. I decided to try making CCC (Spirally Goodness) from 18g 3/16" AA rings today. It works, but it is pretty inflexible. Now i have a pretty 4" piece of lavender CCC that I have no idea what to do with. Any ideas? I usually make CCC from 20g 5/32" or 18g 7/32" and it works beautifully.

What to do with a fairly inflexible piece of CCC

It is also known as spirally goodness, so it still is spirally goodness.

    Scaleflower hairclip attachment

That is super cool! I have colored grommets, but I don't think they are as long as your rivets, and I"m not sure they'd hold as well. I may have to try this.

    Scaleflower hairclip attachment

I attach mine with rings. Never thought to use a headpin, but it doesn't sound very sturdy. I think I use 2 or 4 rings...

Chain maille magic! madd-vyking, I looked to see if I have 20g in 9/64, but I don't...only 19g in that size. I wish the AA came in more sizes, like 18g 7/32. Sigh.I'm going to try it in more sizes in BA cuz I have a ton of different ARs.
