Stainless Steel - Black and Plain

Is soft temper stainless ever going to come back in stock? I liked it because it was shinier than the standard stainless (as well as being easier to work).

Any word on the soft temper stainless?

Stainless Steel - Black and Plain

I really need to know if the soft temper stainless 5/32 and 3/16 is going to be in stock any time soon. If not I’d like to know so I can make other plans

Do you have an ETA on Soft Temper stainless 18swg 5/32 and 3/16?

    Brass

I'm holding an order waiting for SXBJR16316 to be back in stock - is it coming soon? If not I'll place the order without it.

First Scalemail Shirt - Beginner Question

You need to exert inward pressure as you twist the ring ends back and forth so that the gap (the kerf) gradually closes. You should hear the wire ends click as they brush against each other (you can hear this is the video). Just be careful when pressing inwards that your grip on the ring is secure - if you slip you can bang your knuckles or stab yourself...

Saw Cut AA in 16 3/16

Are there any plans to add saw cut AA in 16 swg 3/16? I use the machine cut AA in that size for low-cost JPL bracelets, but I'd much prefer to use the nicer SX quality if it was available in that size. Apologies if this is a duplicate message, I thought I posted this yesterday but it disappeared.
  8. HI! I've been using the machine cut AA16316 for a long time to make low-cost colorful JPL bracelets. Its the only machine cut AA that I use, and I only use it because you don't make that size in saw cut. Is there any plan to ever make the nicer quality SXAA in this size as anything other than a special?

    Anodized Aluminum

Any word on an eta for Orange SXAA1614? In November it was going to be a few months.
  10. I've been invited to teach a beginners chainmaille class and was thinking of basing it on the TRL shaggy tree ornament. I've never used a purchased tutorial for teaching, is this OK and if so what are the rules for duplication of materials, giving credit to the source etc? I'm sure I've seen this discussed in the past but having problems finding anything right now. Thanks!

Using a TRL tutorial for teaching

Thanks! That's helpful information. Actually I've since decided to base the class on my modification of one of the tutorials that originated with Blue Buddah Boutique, so I'm going to contact Rebeca Mojica for permission to use some of her images.
  12. I posted this in the maille industry forum, but I think I should have asked here. I've been invited to teach a beginners chainmaille class and was thinking of basing it on the TRL shaggy tree ornament or another beginner level tut. I've never used a purchased tutorial for teaching. Is this OK? Are there any rules for duplication of the tutorial materials, giving credit to the source etc? I'm sure I've seen this discussed in the past but having problems finding anything right now. Thanks!

    Using TRL kits/tutorials for teaching

I'm asking here because it is a TRL tutorial. I'm prepared to buy multiple copies if that is all that is required. A complicating factor is that some TRL tuts originated with Blue Buddah Boutique - who is the originator now? I want to do the right thing but there isn't much guidance.

    3D printed

Yes, 3D printing is currently not competitive on price. But it's great for one-off highly customized items, if you don't have traditional metalworking skills or want to do something unconventional.

    Copper-colored jewelry?

I should mention these are toxic and you need to use gloves and not use around food. Also I'm keeping residues aside for safe disposal (along with my polishing sludge) and not putting it down the drain. http://www.jaxchemicals.com

    Copper-colored jewelry?

Thanks ShadowAngel! It's so hard to get good information. I will certainly try some of these. I did get good results using commercial patination solutions from JAX - the JAX Brown gives a nice antique brown on copper, bronze and brass, and doesn't come off with light tumbling (an hour in a vibe with walnut shell or 10 mins in a magnetic pin tumbler) AND it also resists short exposure to cleaning with vinegar so you can have bright and dark rings in the same piece and be able to clean the bright rings as required. I sealed it with a little Renaissance Wax polish, which doesn't seem to affect the durability but makes it glossier and more professional-looking. The JAX Dichroic FX Black used on brass or copper gives a shiny black that looks like hematite, and also resists light tumbling.

    Ring Size for Roundmaille

It really depends on the exact measurements of the rings. Since you already started, the quickest way to estimate if it will work is to put it on a piece of paper in its most curved position, and draw the circle it will make when it is complete. You can make the curve a bit more forgiving by stopping short of a complete circle and finishing it with an extension chain.

Tweek 3 in 1 Chain Video Tutorial

Nice tutorial - very clear! I just made some in anodized aluminum 16swg 5/32 (just because I had some), and it's a bit loose and floppy, which seems weird for such a low AR. (I think this I just becaue the AA is so light; the weight of SS would probably make it hang better.) Have you done anything at lower AR, or have an idea what the lower AR limit would be?

    Copper-colored jewelry?

I've been thinking about patinating copper - I would love to get an antiqued green finish, but I'm fairly sure it would rub off with skin contact. I've seen a lot of recipes for patinating solutions, but no guidance on how durable the finishes are. Does anyone have practical experience with doing this for maille?
