  1. So I have been away for a few months working on my newest hobby, THE MOST EXPENSIVE WAY TO MAKE SAWDUST (a.k.a. Pen turning). Started back making my chainmail the last few days and figured I would show off some of my other hobby as well.

From left to right they are 50 cal. bullet pen (made from a once fired 50 cal round), corkscrew/bottle stopper (the stopper unscrews to reveal the corkscrew), 30 cal bolt action pen, Stylus/pen combo, and a Mach 3 razor handle.

  2. Not sure this is the best place for this but it seems the most logical to me. So here goes.

My question: Is there any way either now or later on to add a feature such as someone suggesting a color and then putting it to a vote to see if it would be popular enough to do? I only ask because when I posted in the Trading room asking if anyone knew where I could get some maroon there seemed to be a lot of interest in that color.

  3. I suppose if someone wanted to take charge of it and and collect the orders for color sizes and money from everyone interested and then we could all send them our part of the costs...they could place the order and send things out as needed...wow, that sounded a lot less overwhelming in my head. anyone out there looking to branch out into becoming an approved TRL distributor in the US...assuming they wouldn't mind of course.

Yeah that is kind of along the lines I was thinking but the "organizer" would have to be someone everyone trusted who had the time to sort and repackage everything we'd also have to factor in the fact that shipping would have to be accounted for twice basically. Because we would all have to pitch in for shipping from TRL and then cover cost of shipping from said organizer to the individual. It just became to complicated in my mind.

  4. I've been thinking of trying to add this color to my stock of rings, but so far I haven't found any either. I wonder how many people could go together in one order to get a custom color and not have to order $150 of one size (see heading on custom orders/colors. Sorry I can't link you).

Well the problem with Maroon is it would be a completely custom color so we could get TRL to do it as a custom batch but the min order (if I have read correctly) jumps to $1000 but can be of multiple sizes. So to bring it into the attainable realm we would need to get quite a few people to pitch in. That's why I was looking to see if anyone knew of any company that already offered it.

  5. This is one of those topics that gets a lot of different opinions based on how the individual views their craft. Some will use Materials x 2, others uses Materials x 2 plus time. I personally use Materials + time + profit margin. I do it this way because I view it as a business and the profit margin is what is used to reinvest in the company and pay overhead costs.

  6. That's a lot of work for something simple.

True it may seem like a lot of work but I enjoy programming so an access database was actually on the simpler side of thoughts I had. I actually have several databases on my laptop I uses on a regular basis. I have one for movies, one for books, and one for tools. Plus I am building one for what supplies I have on hand. The three I have already show me what I have, where its at and whether someone has borrowed it and if so who. Takes more time to set up in the beginning but to me it makes the end process much faster and more accurate.

  7. Plus, I'll bet that it could count as an improvised weapon, a dice bag with split rings... -4 to hit, but most DMs have suitably low ACs...

Careful though some of us DM's have catch arrow feats and will gladly throw said dice bag back... or confiscate if we want it for ourselves LOL.

  8. I was considering allowing customers to purchase gift certificates from my business but I am not sure how effective they would be or if there is a good software program for maintaining information on the certificates. I figured if there is not software I could always make myself an access database or excel sheet but no reason to reinvent the wheel if the software does exist.
