    Making Chainmail Smaller

Thanks! I have another question (sorry guys!). I have a sugar loaf helmet, I'm wondering what the ideal method of getting it to fit in the best way is. This helmet often presses against my nose (I have a 23" head size), it's 27". It fits better with my chainmail coif on. Would an arming cap (or some alternative since I don't have one) be the solution for a better fit? Thanks, Sinjid

    Making Chainmail Smaller

Hello again, Chainmail came in yesterday. It is big on me as expected. I have a couple of questions: 1. What's an alternative to wear instead of arming caps under my coif? I tried a hand towel, that didn't work. 2. How do I redistribute some of the chainmail weight over my belt? I've tried jumping and pulling. Jumping didn't get it up over the belt. Pulling it up and over resulted in the belt being pressed on my gut, making it painful and hard to breathe.

Thanks!Because of that, I've stretched the budget and bought a helmet from a local (well, local as in state), it's 27" circumference and that should fit. I'll see how it fits when it comes in on Monday (the chainmail took 2 days to ship from MD, the helmet will take 5 days when it takes only 4 hours to drive from here to there, not sure why).

I have a question about a helmet now, from overstock (I contacted their support and they have me these dimensions for a sugarloaf helmet): "13.5" in Length and 8" in width. " Would that fit over a 23 inch circumference head and a chainmail coif?

Yeah, and I'll definitely be sure to go through and check every ring and make fixes. My chainmail will be arriving a day early: Thursday, the 8th.

The chainmail I bought from eBay should be coming in by Friday (although it's not a seller that has good shipping and communication reviews). I'll see what I have when it comes in, and I will post a picture. I'm 100% certain that I'll downsize the chainmail. Thanks guys.

    Alternatives to padded gambeson

Thanks. I'll definitely be sure to wear a belt, if not, maybe a couple of towels will help.

    Alternatives to padded gambeson

Thanks! That's what I'll do then--wear long sleeved.
  9. Hello, What are some recommended alternatives to wear under chainmail? If a padded gambeson is out of budget (and it is), then what would you recommend I wear under my chainmail hauberk? Also, where can I find some relatively cheap gloves that look medieval? Thanks, Sinjid

Yeah, together it's cheaper. I don't like that both sellers have negative reviews for bad communication. With the first one, I had poor communication from the seller who doesn't know what he's selling. I'll probably buy from the second since they know what it's made of. Thank you for all your help! I will start a thread this weekend when I begin making my own chainmail (long project ahead!).

What's something that's galvanized and within $100? I just need something to last through Halloween and the renaissance festival. I've searched the internet for a couple hours every day for the past few weeks. This seller also doesn't even know what size the shirt is when I asked him. Would 18 gauge last? Edit: I've also found this:http://www.ebay.com/itm/Museum-Replica-Handmade-Medieval-Chain-Mail-Shirt-and-Coif-Armor-Set-Full-Size-/201377274963?hash=item2ee3055c53

When I make chainmail, I'd like to use 16 gauge; however, I'm unsure of how wide to make the rings. I haven't found any tutorials on that. I'd like it to last for a long while. Thanks!

Many thanks!! http://m.ebay.com/itm/Metal-Medieval-Knight-CHAINMAIL-Chain-Mail-SHIRT-Armor-Super-Strong-/291147774533?_trkparms=aid%253D222007%2526algo%253DSIC.MBE%2526ao%253D1%2526asc%253D20150519202348%2526meid%253Dfe083c3052f94f558e1eb615cdf4531d%2526pid%253D100408%2526rk%253D8%2526rkt%253D25%2526sd%253D291447074300&_trksid=p2056116.c100408.m2460 There's the exact shirt. He hasn't specified chest size. I have a size of 34" and he said it pretty much fits everyone which means it might be uncomfortably big for me (I.e big neck hole).

Hello, Is it possible to make a butted chainmail hauberk's chest size smaller? If so, what's the best way of doing this? Thanks, Sinjid
