Learning Chainmaille - First Few Pieces

Great stuff. Your closures are really good (that's what people here look at first).

Very nicely done, I love the asymmetric necklace.

    Trichonopoly

Ah OK now I get you. I thought this was like loop in loop where you use rings. I am familiar with Viking Knit but yours is obviously more loops (on the flower) than I'm used to. A pic of the starting flower (or just the number of loops) would be cool. Thanks.

    Newbie

Great work and 4 different weaves that quickly is impressive. Euro 4in1 Box Chain Half Persian 4in1 (very impressive) Barrel Weave (with the scales)

    Celtic Star tutorial?

I've made them lots of times without those rings, makes for a slightly different look.

Pic of some of my stuff

I make and cut my own rings too. Started out that way because in 1988 there were no suppliers in the UK at all, now there are one or two but their quality is no where near my own. I understand the lack of time but with practice hand cutting gets faster and I can get much higher prices for the jewellery I make.

    Poseidon's Embrace - titanium necklace

Wow! Gorgeous. How much does it weigh?

    Celtic Star tutorial?

Kahuna please would you submit a tut of this to MAIL? Building them from the middle out is a great way to make them.

    Two more weaves for me...

Yes very similar. It's in the weaves library on MAIL but no tut yet.

    Trichonopoly

Oh that's fabulous! I have only just dipped my toe into this kind of chain making, I hope I can make something as lovely as that one day in the not too distant future. I would like more pics and details please. My biggest issue with making these chains has been starting with the right size (AR) rings, so any help would be great.

Or you can check out Spider's and C&T's both are saw cut!

Pic of some of my stuff

The camera is never kind to closures, I often find a few that need a tweek after I take a pic, this kind of thing improves with practice. And we must all praise the Closure God! I love the Blue lanyard but all nice work.

    3 new pieces & a nightmare

Lovely Dragonscale. May I suggest saw cut rings, this kind of work is more than worthy of better cuts. I can totally sympathize over the pliers, my dog did the same thing to one pair of my Lindstrom bent nose pliers!

    Tut for Celtic Spiral Knot

    Cable (wire) question

I got myself some free wire the other day (although hauling it home wasn't much fun) and I was wondering exactly what it is. It's very big red plastic covered underground electrical cable, this piece was left lying in a field next to a building site where new homes are going up near me. I asked the foreman about it and he said 'if the electricians have left it there they obviously don't want it'. So it's now mine. The smaller wires you can see are copper (fab for me, I love copper), then there is a thick plastic/rubber type stuff tube and then a large metal core, anyone know what the metal core is? Here you can see (in my very untidy garden) just how much of it I have, heavy stuff!

    Cable (wire) question

It's a nice idea but I'm sure it's possible, at least not for little old me!
