    Graduated chains

Euro 4:1 or better 6:1 would work for graduated rings. With 6:1 and only 3 or 4 ring sizes you can get a 'wave effect' by increasing and decreasing the size regularly that looks really fine.
  2. I'd like to make a reproduction of this top weared by Pink in Pepsi's commercial: I've collected a lot of pictures and videocaps and I know how the pattern is but I haven't been able to count with precission the number of rows of the different pieces. Does anybody has any info about this? Thanks in advice.

Pink's chainmail top in Pepsi's commercial

Thanks for your help and efforts. I had already all those pictures and from the youtube video I have cropped 104 frames! (I didn't notice the number till now! -LOL-)

Pink's chainmail top in Pepsi's commercial

Yes, that should be the last alternative, but as I'm not doing it for anyone in particular and I just want to make a 'master' or reference piece for future possible commitments, knowing the exact number of rows makes easier to scale it up or down. And if it was the case of anyone who knows about the original piece, it could show details about the back part that can be seen only in a few frames.

How to not damage aluminum rings?

I use cheap pliers without stripes in the jaws and don't leave any kind of mark. They are similar to this one:

    Advice on making a mantle?

The method I used once was this: 1 Make a closed strip of three rows with the size of the inner part (close to the neck) and another one with the size of the outer part (shoulders). 2 Count the number of rings of each strip. The difference is the number of expansions you'll need. 3 Measure the distance over your shoulder between the two strips and calculate the number of rows that it would implie. 4 Distribute the expansions regularly alternating their possition in the rows. For example: - inner strip: 130 rings - outer strip: 150 rings - distance between strips: 10 rows This means I need to insert 20 rings in ten rows, so I can insert 5 rings in four of the ten rows (It's recommended that the number of rings of the strips should be divisible by the number of rings to be inserted each time to make it regular). Then 1st row = 130 rings; 2nd, 130 + 5 more rings; 3rd =135; 4th = 135+5; 5th = 140; 6th = 140+5; 7th = 145; 8th = 145+5; 9th = 150; 10th = 150. Another way is to make the mantle with six triangles, but the seams would be marked.

    Looking for some tips.

Some ideas: It's not fullsize (just 1:6 scale) but it's as good as a real one. The author of the most awesome 1:6 chainmaille piece I've ever seen: AUTHOR

  12. Final version with half persian chain in the neck and back:
  13. Here is my MODELED version of the top made by SilentThunder (link here) Yeah... it's only 1/6th scale... ...but the model, Paquita, likes it so much! Stats: 0,5 mm silvered copper; 1,5 mm i.d.; a couple of euro 4:1 triangles (easy, isn't it?). My idea was to make the necklace with half persian, but I ended the wire and didn't want to wait till next monday... so I used (by the moment) a strip of thin wire. I'll fix it soon. Based on my experience during the photo sessions, for the 1:1 real piece I suggest a little strip of chain in the front slit to prevent inadecuate openings when weared without underwear I'm gonna start working in a full scale piece soon with black 0,8 mm wire with 5 mm i.d. (I'll have more problems to take pictures with a "real scale" model.... )

Sharon Stone in "more chain than maille"

For those who claimed for a close-up... here it is. These are photograhs taken from a printed issue of a magazine, so sorry for the quality because it isn't HQ. It can be seen that it's made by lines of different types of chain, probably stitched to the inner fabric. You can also see, especially those looking for nudity, that she is wearing underwear... golden knickers indeed, and there is a black cloth under the chains. Enjoy her...
  23. It isn't true maille but definitively it's chain. And it's Sharon Stone son I don't need more words... A complex weave, isn't it? I'm trying to guess the weight of the dress.... And as someone has claimed for a close up, here it is:
