Newb Help with Persian 4 in 1

Quick Update: I can weave in multiple directions now. Kon: I found your article on M.A.I.L. and I am about to start reading it. Are there any tutorials on doing the expansions/contraction triangles? Thanks for all the help! Probably would have given up a long time ago without it. LOL

Newb Help with Persian 4 in 1

Hey guys. For the time being I scrubbed the inlay project. Currently working on a 4 in1 16g chainmail shirt. Trying to wrap my head around doing expansions. In Butted Mail: A Mail Makers Guide, the weave starts with the links going vertically. Once the weave is started do you rotate it and continue the weave horizontally? I apologize if this is stupid question but my brain is stuck here Kon: mold = mannequin Thanks all!

Newb Help with Persian 4 in 1

Update: got my rings, made a mold and have been closing rings. About to start weaving. The article from Trevor Barker was informative. May have questions once I get to the expansions/contractions but I think I have the general idea. I may add a padding of sorts to the mold to give me an idea of how much I need to add to the mold to accommodate the padding. Thanks again for the help!

I saw your inlay. That's awesome! I've slowed down on this until I know more about how to get the image to IGP without screwing it up. The image is only one color and is of a dragon head. I can resize and post it later today. Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the info Konstantin. I have gotten better with closing the links on the size I'll be using for this project. I've also purchased better pliers to save on my hands and allow for longer weaving. Currently, I have the cheap ones from TRL. Before I start, I'll need to do a bit more reading on how to layout the shirt etc. Thanks again.

    18 gauge 3/16

Ok. Took another go at this and I agree with your last statement TitaniumMithril. I don't believe this to be something I am doing. I can align all the other rings I have nicely. Even the 18g 3/16 anodized that I have. This is an issue with the ring. I will probably toss them. I'll order more if I decide to do something with that size. I'm hoping this is just a bad batch as I'd hate to have to figure out how to correct this. Thanks for the help and info.

See how the ends are not flush? I've tried several different methods to ensure I'm bending the ring at the middle point opposite the ring opening but no luck.

    18 gauge 3/16

Hi all, I am trying to use 18g 3/16 jump rings for a project. When I twist the ring ends close, one end is higher than another. I've used a lot of rings but can't figure out what exactly I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions on closing the rings without the offset between the two ends?

First, thanks! I resized the image and it imported into IGP. At 80 x 120, it is really grainy. I see inlays that look better than the one I am doing. Is there anything I can do to make it look better? Make it scalable? Thanks

I'll mess around with the settings when I get home. The file size may be why I keep getting an error when I try to load it into IGP. 400k inlay!? Holy crap! Pic plz

Yes. I did mean European 4 in 1. Sorry. Digesting a lot of information. By what Konstantin is saying, I am twisting the rings incorrectly. I'm pretty sure he is right. I have seen some articles about tools to use to help with this. I will pay more attention to my technique. I will check out the steel 16g 1/4 swg rings. Thanks for the help!

I've downloaded IGP and the .Net 1.1 framework. I still can not get it to work. I've used GIMP to edit the picture I want and then export as a .bmp. When I try to load it in IGP I get an 'unhandled exception' error. The pictures with the grid (like the Thundercats one) all load into IGP fine. The issue only exists with images I create. Is there a special setting when I save the .bmp file? The file size for the image I am using is about 2.5meg. Thanks in advance for any help!

Newb Help with Persian 4 in 1

I am starting a Persian 4 in 1 weave. I am currently looking at IGP to do an inlay. After doing some research, I think that 16 gauge 5/16ID or 16 gauge 1/4 will work well. I have a few questions if anyone can help. I have a couple of sheets of 4 in 1 14 gauge I've done and I've saddled a lot of the rings. Can anyone suggest tools to keep this from happening. I am currently using the 2 flat pliers that come with the kit from TRL. I am going to use the Bright Aluminum and I am not sure which rings to go with for the inlay. Anodized? I see a lot of info on doing weaves. I purchased the book by Dylon Whyte but does anyone have a good start to finish tutorial for doing a chain mail shirt? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi! Just wondering when you will have more of the 14ga 3/8" ID (Bulk bag of 5000) in stock? I am about to run out and need more. Thanks!
