What is the best way to come up with or see patterns for scale shirts? I was originally going to make a crusader outfit for the faire but after the faire in April I tried on the crusader helmet. It is very heavy and fully inclosed which is not what I want for the faires. So I am changing helmet styles and will no longer do the cross on the shirt. Now I am trying to figure out what pattern to use the gold scales on the shirt. Is there a program to help with? How does everyone else figure out there patterns or what it would look like randomized?

Got these from the scales section of the TRL website.

printing them out and colored pencils is how I do it, that way I can have the pattern nearby while I weave. I think they have ones for E4 too.

If your operating system is Windows, Irregular Grid Painter (IGP) has a scale pattern. Links are in my signature.
