Help with getting into events

Recommended Posts

So I want to do more events and I am thinking of posting in craigslist for events and things but not sure how to go about it.

What do you guys recommend and how should I go about this?

Start by looking at your stock and determining that audience it will appeal to.

Ren fairs, art/craft shows, and bazaars/community festivals all attract a different customers.

Determine how far your willing to travel and how much you can afford to spend on gas, lodging, and associated expenses.

Then look at community calendars and such that would advertise the show/festival.

If you can talk with other vendors about what was selling well and what other shows are in your travel zone.

Juried shows are a little more complicated but tend to weed out the mass produced home sales stuff and tend to have more complex items.

Seasonal shows or cultural festivals tend to do well for me but fall colors and pirate theme items don't sell well on St. Patrick's day.

I make a lot of use of this site to find fairs and expos in my area. . .then there's also the invites I get for shows (Which I wasn't expecting but I'm not about to complain)

Just put in your zip code and what you're looking for and it gives you a list complete with the website for the fair if available. Highly, HIGHLY valuable little search tool in my opinion.

It sounds like you're in Portland, Or. If so, you might also look into Orycon.  It's coming up in Nov, and they migth still have tables.

I wouldn't. Event coordinators aren't likely to be looking on Craigslist for vendors.

You could ask you local Chamber of Commerce if they know of any arts/craft shows, festivals, bazaars, farmer's markets, etc. in the area.

Hmm. Well maybe these sites will be of help:

Arts and Crafts Shows - USA: http://www.artsandcraftshows-usa.com/

Craft Master News: http://www.craftmasternews.com/Default.aspx

FestivalNet.com: http://festivalnet.com/index.html

Fairs and Festivals: http://www.fairsandfestivals.net/

They all allow you to search for shows by state.
