Springback question

To get 1/4" Id bright aluminum rings. What size mandrel should I be looking at? I know a 1/4" mandrel is gonna give me larger rings...Probably in the 5/16 - 3/8 range. Is 3/16 too small?

I coiled a bunch of 2' lengths of .048" 5356 on each mandrel of my full set. I fit my .25" rod into the coil done with the .234" (drill letter A) one. You never did mention the WD though

How accurate do you have to be, because there are several different factors involved. Hardness of wire. Gauge of wire. Force used in winding......

I just checked a couple of random 1/4", 16 gauge bright aluminum rings from my powered coiling and cutting rigs, and from a 1/4" mandrel I averaged 0.254" ID rings. Variation was minor.
