Anvil setup for riveted maille

Recommended Posts

Hello/Greetings!

After lurking in these forums for quite a while, I finally got around to making an account because I wanted to ask a question:
I have the basic pliers/boltcutters and the rest already in stock but I will be moving from butted chainmail to riveted and now I need some extra equipment :).

For making riveted chainmail, what would you recommend for me anvil-wise? (Europe)

(This is hobby- related so I don't need anything 'industy'-grade)

For what your doing a larger piece of steel with a flat surface should work.

If you know someone with a machine shop bar drops can often be hand cheap.

A few inches of axel will if you can cut them square.

Search jewelry supply places for bench blocks, you can get something as basic as a block of steel, or they make bench blocks that are embedded in rubber or on wood blocks for sound reduction.  If you want to make your own rivets there's a thing called a riveting anvil that has multiple holes to work with various gauges of wire.
