help with swinging mail

Recommended Posts

I have been working on a mail shirt for the last year or so, and I like to wear it at work, but when I'm walking around the bottom hem sways and swings in a way that looks unpleasant and some times painful. Is there any way to minimize the swing? Thank for any help you can give!

Well that eliminates one possibility. There are a couple of options then.

The first is to properly taper the shirt so that it better conforms to your body, using expansions and contractions, if you haven't already done so. This will mean there's less material to swing loose.

The second might be a little counter intuitive; lengthen it. This won't stop it from swinging loose, but it will alter the location that the swing hits to something less sensitive.

Well it is already top of the knee length and weighs over 60 pounds, so I would hate to make it much longer(and heavier) then that, so I guess I will try to tailor a bit better. My gut has shrunk some lately, so that might help. thanks Rob!

What's it look like?

Stiffening the edge with some Hp3in1 will contract it a little and should help reduce swing.

You think so? I might have to learn a new weave then.
