These tags are versatile and are great for many projects. Some of the ideas we've come up with are:

* Reusable price tags - that are weather proof! No more soggy paper tags at outdoor shows. This is a very durable option - simply mark with a marker.
* Dance belt coins
* Jewelry parts - they can be used as is as a part of any jewelry item. As part of a pendant, earring bracelet etc.
* You can embellish them as show in the pic below using stamps, etching, engraving etc
* Charms - use to make wine glass charms or anything else you can think of!

Other colors and materials are available with a bulk order. Have a look at our scales page to see possible materials and colors.
Please email if you have a bulk request for a different material.

Man, those new tags would be PERFECT... I've got a HUGE show coming up in a couple weeks... And, of course, I just put in a rush order last night and it was shipped this morning.

Oh well. Next order, I suppose.

I assume the black/bronze matches the black scales? What is the hole size at the top? Less than 3/4" is kind of small, is there any plans to make a larger coin/tag in this shape?

Yes these ones are made from the same strip as the black AA scales.
The size is fairly decent - making them useful for jewelry and marking applications. Its just a 16th under 3/4" at 11/16". I don't think we have plans for another size at this time.

They look cool and useful but I cannot find how many I get for $5. A bag but not how many in a bag. Great idea!

The scales for the scale flower are double sided scales or single sided colored scales?

If I remember you started only having anodized on a single side small scales.

Our anodized scales are anodized on both sides. The flowers shown are sold as a sample of the design - they likely will not be made from anodized scales but rather aluminum scales.
The kits have yet to be determined - but as I noted the anodized scales are double sided.

We have never had an anodized only one side scale (that I recall). We do have a black one side - bronze the other (see the tag pic - this is the same strip). All other colors have always been the same color on both sides.

Ok, I was thinking of the Aluminum scales and I thought that there was talk of having those as only single sided with the color... However I might also be thinking of something completely different...

i have been making a skirt with tags like this but it was a hell of a job to drill 4 holes in it (no corners you know). Can you do something like that so i can use them in combination with the other chainmaille stuff

Maybe - I don't have enough tooling to do a 5 step progressive die - right now I could make a tag with 2 holes. For about $500 in tooling I could make tags with 4 nicely spaced holes. If someone were willing to pay say a $50 tooling fee to help subsize the tooling cost I would likely do it. I the meantime maybe I'll try a 2 hole version.

Jon,

Any thought in making a more traditional scale design - For instance, a traditional shield-shaped scale with 2 holes punched at the top, to be riveted onto a cloth or leather backing? Or, using the punch to make lamellar plates?

We've just started using a new die type. If it goes well the cost to do different shapes is much lower. We'll definitely keep this shape in mind.

More tags!
I've updated the Tag area of our site - we now have most colors of AA and we have Bronze tags instock.

I also made a few projects and I like the results!

Both of these projects were made with non tarnish silver enameled copper chain and blue anodized aluminum tags. I attached 1 tag every other ring on the chain. I used our welded fabric seaming machine (sorry but it was so convenient). I recommend a ring about 19g 1/8" or so depending on the look you want.

I posted these projects in our gallery - feel free to comment.

Very pretty pieces. I had some interesting ideas for the tags but can also see so many more options with the two-hole punched variant that was mentioned.

A side question: do you recommend a Sharpie for marking prices on the tags or is there a particular marker that will not smear/rub off when someone handles the tag? I've seen interesting things happen to Sharpie on metal so I would like to know how these tags will hold up to interested customers.

If you do not want the marker to rub off I highly recommend a Staedtler marker. I'm a marker snob and these work fabulously.

you can get them any where - like Staples.
